Join us in our authentic Flores kitchen and experience a hands-on cooking class where fire, food, and island heritage come together. This is a communal journey shared with other guests as we prepare a traditional Flores dinner over a wood fire. The class takes place indoors in our traditional firewood kitchen, and the meal is enjoyed seated on bamboo mats on the floor – just as it’s done in homes across Flores. It’s a warm, earthy, and nourishing experience.

Your Experience – Step by Step

3:00 PM – Arrival & Welcome Drink
You’re welcomed with a traditional herbal drink upon arrival. Meet your hosts and fellow guests in the heart of our kitchen.

3:15 PM – Cooking Class
Prepare a complete traditional Flores dinner over firewood under the guidance of our local team. Learn time-honored techniques and work together using fresh, local ingredients.

6:00 PM – Dinner in the Kitchen
Gather on the floor, seated on bamboo mats in our kitchen-restaurant space. Share and enjoy the meal you’ve just prepared in the warmth of firelight and good company.

  • Traditional Chicken Dish (e.g. Manuk Cuing or other regional specialties) or Vegan Alternative (Tofu/Tempe)
  • Nasi Kolo (Bamboo Rice)

Location & Access

Dapur Tara is located 35–40 minutes outside Labuan Bajo, in the green hills of Flores. You can reach us by scooter, car or local transport. If needed, we’re happy to connect you with a trusted driver who knows the way.

Booking & Payment Information

  • Price: 500,000 IDR per person + 10% tax
  • Minimum booking: 2 persons
  • Accepted methods: Indonesian Bank Transfer, QRIS, Wise, Revolut, or Credit/Debit Card

Booking & Payment Terms

  • Booking deadline: 3:00 PM the day before
  • 50% deposit required at time of booking
  • Final payment due by 3:00 PM the day before
  • Cancellations or rescheduling are free until 3:00 PM the day before
  • After that, the booking is fully confirmed and non-refundable

Is this a group class?
Yes – this is a shared experience, meaning you’ll be cooking alongside other lovely guests who booked for the same day.

What’s the cooking environment like?
We cook indoors in our traditional Flores firewood kitchen, seated low to the ground as is customary in Flores homes. The warm, smoky ambiance adds to the authenticity.

Can children join?
Yes – children are warmly welcome. We gently adapt the experience so everyone, regardless of age, can participate and feel included. From grinding spices to stirring pots, there’s joy for all.

What if I have food allergies or preferences?
