kaka Liz preparing the serving table in Dapur Tara restaurant

Welcome to Dapur Tara
A Living Tradition of Food, Fire & Flores Hospitality

Nestled in the hills above Labuan Bajo, Dapur Tara is more than just a restaurant. It is a home of heritage, a cultural sanctuary, and a kitchen where the fire never sleeps.

Here, Every Meal Tells a Story

Every dish begins in the garden, is transformed over open flames, and served with heart. Our traditional Flores kitchen is fully wood-fired – no gas, no shortcuts – just the way our ancestors cooked.

Rooted in Community, Grown with Care

Dapur Tara is proudly community-based. We grow our own vegetables, herbs, and fruits in our ecological gardens, and work closely with local farmers to source anything we don’t grow ourselves. Each dish supports the land, the people, and the wisdom of generations.

Food with a Story

We believe food should not only nourish the body, but also the soul. From smoky bamboo rice to hand-ground sambals and long-cooked chicken over embers, everything we serve carries a story from Flores.
